Age 17, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on Friday, March 28, 2008. Rachel was born on October 16, 1990, in Long Beach, California to parents Mark and Debra (Thompson) Merrell. Rachel was a junior at Roseburg High School. She worked at Quizno’s and was a member of New Beginnings Christian Assembly, the RHS varsity cheer leading team. She found joy in singing, dancing, modeling and gymnastics. Rachel loved life and people. She was popular and beautiful to all. Her smile lit up a room. Rachel is survived by her parents, Mark and Debra Merrell; sister, Amber Merrell; brothers, Travis and Mark Merrell; sister-in-law, Rheta Merrell; nieces, Trinity and Mariah; Nana ‘Doreen Thompson’ all from Roseburg. She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins from California, Idaho and Liverpool, England. Rachel is preceded in death by her granddad, Eric Thompson of Liverpool and grandparents, Edward and Myrtle Merrell of California. Public funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Jacoby Auditorium at Umpqua Community College. A viewing will be held on April 5, 2008, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Beginnings Christian Assembly, 518 N.E. Nash, Roseburg. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses is handling the arrangements. 541-673-4455.
